Dembé Lions

Due to the war in Ukraine, Stichting Leeuw received an emergency call to take care of several big cats. Dembé comes from near Kharkiv, eastern Ukraine. Together with other animals, he was taken to the border of Poland and Ukraine by caretakers, who risked their own lives. Here he was picked up by the drivers of Stichting Leeuw. Poznan Zoo in Poland coordinated these transports.

After a long and hectic journey through Ukraine, Poland, Germany and the Netherlands, Dembé arrived safely at Stichting Leeuw. Here he could first relax in the quarantine. After 30 days, Dembé was allowed to go to the main building of Stichting Leeuw. Dembé is now enjoying his ‘quiet and safe’ lion life.
