Mannie was rejected by his father, which is why he had been living in isolation for a number of years in an enclosure that was far too small. His father and mother lived in a separate enclosure. Visitors and other parties raised the alarm that this was really not acceptable. Theme park Mondo Verde initially wanted to send the lion to a park in Jakarta. In this park, animals are used to do tricks, among other things, and many animals can be petted (including lion cubs). After submitting an objection procedure from animal rights organization Bite Back, Mondo Verde was finally open to transferring the lion to The Lions Foundation. Through a fundraising campaign by World Animal Protection, the necessary money for the move was arranged. In April 2025, Mannie moved to The Lions Foundation.
