Omar Lions
Omar was born in a circus in Slovakia. As a cub, he was bought by a man who thought it would be nice to have a lion. But when he fled the country, Omar was left in his small cage. The man’s father tried to sell the lion but was unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, Omar was losing weight and in his cage he had no shelter from the extreme cold. When a group of animal activists saw that Omar was being offered for sale, they alerted Stichting Leeuw. In March 2015, Stichting Leeuw picked up Omar and at the sanctuary the lion quickly recovered.
Together with Bruno, he moved to South Africa in December 2017. Bruno has been living with Ziera and Omar with Mahli since the beginning of 2021. They now have a beautiful large enclosure of approximately 1.5 hectares at The Lions Foundation.
